CASE STUDY: Gothic Landscape and The Essential Role of Home Charging for EV Adoption
Gothic Landscape Overcomes Charging Infrastructure Hurdles With Home Charging Reimbursement
The Nation’s Largest Family Owned Commercial Landscape Company Was Seeking Ways to Accelerate EV Adoption
In today's rapidly evolving mobility landscape, electric vehicles (EVs) stand at the forefront of sustainable fleet management. However, a critical challenge many fleet managers face is the practicality of charging infrastructure. The Gothic Landscape case study below offers invaluable insights into overcoming these obstacles through a pioneering approach: home charging for fleet EVs.
Background
Gothic Landscape has been providing landscape design, construction, management, and restoration for almost 40 years. Today, the company has approximately 2,100 employees across 32 locations in Arizona, California, and Nevada. Under the leadership of Ernie Garcia, their Director of Fleet Management & Business Systems, Gothic had begun the process of converting its fleet of 900 trucks and 400 pieces of equipment over to electric. While the company was committed to having green initiatives and reducing its carbon footprint, none of the locations had on-site charging infrastructure and many of the job sites were far from public charging stations. As a result, Gothic Landscape’s employees were hesitant to switch to electric vehicles.
The Solution
Their solution was to implement a home-charging approach, utilizing ReimburseEV™ to accurately reimburse employees for their home utility costs used for charging. This strategy led to substantial outcomes: a projected additional 30% savings on kWh costs annually per vehicle, enhanced employee satisfaction through reduced downtime, and a more productive start to their day with a fully charged vehicle.
